A registered dietitian who has been in private practice for over 25 years and named one of DC’s top nutritionists by Washingtonian Magazine, I have the unique ability to combine the art of communication with the science of nutrition to motivate my patients. Recently, I was diagnosed with IBS.
Through personal experience and a desire to help others with a digestive disease, I am excited to bring cutting edge diet protocols to patients to help them manage their symptoms and find GI relief.
I started my private practice very early in my career, mostly because I was not a good employee. I liked to do things my way and was just not a rule follower. When I opened my practice, I quickly realized that diets don't work because people can’t follow them for the long term, so I now counsel my clients on how to eat intuitively and stop categorizing foods as "good" and "bad."
Several years ago, I was forced to take a leave from my practice due to some family medical issues. I became the caregiver and put my own needs last, which ultimately led to my own medical issues. I have always had minor digestive issues, but suddenly I started having much more severe symptoms including lack of appetite, gas, painful bloating and constipation. My GI doc diagnosed IBS, but had no treatment suggestions. Frustrated and without answers, I did some research and decided to start following the FODMAP diet to see if it would relieve some of my symptoms... and the results were miraculous!
